Who Handles Ramsey Arrests?
Ramsey is a village of 911 people. The Illinois Blue Book's 2020 Census table ranks it the third-largest incorporated place in Fayette County. Its official site is ramseyillinois.com. No police, arrest-log, or FOIA page appears there. That leaves no records officer, phone number, or local fee that can be quoted with confidence. Fayette County's E911 agency list names no separate Ramsey police department either. St. Elmo Police states plainly that its officers patrol Saint Elmo and surrounding Brownstown and Ramsey. That connection is real. It does not guarantee St. Elmo makes every Ramsey arrest. The Fayette County Sheriff, Illinois State Police, or another agency may hold a particular report. Identify the agency from the source record.
Where Ramsey Recent Arrests Appear
No single Ramsey system collects every arrest. The sources below each answer a narrow question, with official channels listed first.
| Channel | Photos? | Status | Proper use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ramsey village | No gallery found | Official local contact | Confirm the current records custodian |
| St. Elmo Police | No gallery found | Official patrol agency | Reports for events that department handled |
| Fayette Sheriff and Jail | Request if available | Official county source | County-jail booking records and Sheriff reports |
| VINELink | Not a mugshot archive | County-directed service | Current Fayette custody and alerts |
| Circuit Clerk and Judici | No booking gallery | Official court route | Filed cases and dispositions |
| News and county aggregators | Sometimes | Unofficial | Discovery leads, never final verification |
The department publishes no roster, blotter, daily bulletin, or booking photo collection. Pages about a different Fayette County, in another state, do not apply here.
Finding Someone Arrested in Ramsey
Keep four things separate: place, agency, custody, record owner. The Fayette County recent-arrest hub explains the jail, records, photos, and source hierarchy in more depth.
- Record the full name, approximate date and time, precise location, and any report, booking, or case number.
- Look for the arresting agency on a citation, release, court entry, or other original document.
- Ask the village to confirm the responsible agency if the source does not name one.
- Check VINELink for current Fayette County custody. Treat no result as limited to that service and time.
- Request the arrest report from the named agency and the booking record from the Sheriff if county jail intake occurred.
- Check the Circuit Clerk or Judici for filed charges and the later court outcome.
Not every request belongs at St. Elmo. Its page mentions Ramsey, but that alone settles nothing. A village arrest can end in a citation, a release, a transfer, or a booking at another facility.
Ramsey Arrest Record Requests
Start at the official village site. Ask there who holds a specific police or administrative record: the village, St. Elmo Police, the Sheriff, or another agency. The village publishes no FOIA page. So skip unofficial directories for a custodian, phone number, fee, or mailing address. Put the request in writing and cite Illinois FOIA. Describe a finite record. Include the person's name, the date range, the location, the arresting agency if known, and the exact report or log entry. Ask the office to confirm custody or name the correct public body. Noncommercial requests generally get a response within five business days. An extension is allowed with written notice. No Ramsey fee schedule or faster turnaround applies. If St. Elmo Police handled the event, city records apply. City Hall answers at 618-829-3319 or city@stelmo.us. The department's non-emergency line is 618-829-5113. Sheriff arrests and county bookings go through the county FOIA route instead. These are conditional paths, not claims about every Ramsey case.
Ramsey Records Routing
Official village source: ramseyillinois.com. Action: confirm the custodian and handling agency first. Do not use: guessed police contacts or out-of-state Ramsey listings.
Ramsey Patrol Source
The patrol claim comes straight from the official St. Elmo Police/Fire page. That city site says its officers patrol surrounding Ramsey.

The page opens one possible agency route for Ramsey incidents. It does not show that St. Elmo handled any specific arrest or runs a Ramsey booking database.
Ramsey Arrests and County Custody
Fayette County Jail is the likely destination when a Ramsey arrest leads to county detention. Location alone cannot prove a booking. The Sheriff's page publishes no searchable jail roster. The county inmate handout instead points people to VINELink, which tracks current status and notifications rather than a full archive. A blank result can mean several things. The name was entered differently. The booking has not posted yet, or the person was released, transferred, or moved to another custody system. State sentences belong in the Illinois Department of Corrections search. Federal and immigration detention use separate locators. An old news story cannot prove where someone is held today. HomeWAV, JailATM, and TextBehind handle communication, commissary, and jail mail. They are not Ramsey arrest lookup tools. The Sheriff's app and Facebook page are official outlets. Neither advertises a roster feature or booking photo feed.
Requesting a Fayette Booking Record
Fayette County Jail keeps the booking file. Requests go through the FOIA Officer. Write to fcso@fayettecountyillinois.gov or mail the Fayette County Sheriff's Office, 221 S. 7th Street, Vandalia, IL 62471. Posted office hours run Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Holidays are excluded.
Name the person and the date range you want. Ask for the booking sheet, the release or transfer entry, and the booking photograph, if maintained and disclosable. Add a booking number if you have one. The arresting agency helps too. Fees are listed by the county. Inspection is free. The first 50 pages cost nothing, then 15 cents for each black-and-white page. A DVD or CD runs 35 cents.
Withholding rules still apply. Restricted, juvenile, sealed, investigatory, privacy, and safety material can be kept back under applicable law.
Place Versus Arresting Agency
Ramsey records have a twist. Where an event happened and which office wrote the record are often two different things. A news story says Ramsey for the location. The arrest report may name St. Elmo Police, the Sheriff, or another agency. Fayette County Jail may hold the booking sheet. A later case goes to the Circuit Clerk. Track arrest time, booking time, release, transfer, and court dates separately. Never read a city from an agency name. The same field-by-field habit separates two people with similar names and keeps a stale third-party item from looking like current custody.
Ramsey Arrest Coverage and Archives
Fayette-area newsrooms pick which Ramsey events to print. None serves as a complete village blotter. Vandalia Radio runs selected Sheriff and police releases. The Leader-Union covers the county, while WAND, The XRadio, and Southern Illinois Now sometimes carry regional cases. Editorial interest decides what appears.
For older stories, the Illinois Newspaper Project's Fayette search lists historic and local titles, including the Ramsey/Fayette County News. That path finds archives, not current bookings. A historic article needs its publication date. Newspaper holdings, police files, jail records, and court archives each follow different retention and correction rules.
Unofficial Fayette County Listings
Third-party sites list Fayette County arrests too. RecentlyBooked keeps a verified Fayette County page with a rolling window, filters, and sorting. Mugshots.com offers a Fayette County link in its Illinois index. Neither proves a Ramsey arrest happened. Status on those sites can lag or drift. Confirm identity and custody with official sources first. Arrests.org, Mugshots.zone, and BustedNewspaper carry no verified Fayette, Illinois section. Guessing at a local URL invites errors. A Fayette page from Alabama or Ohio belongs to a different state. If a source record is corrected, sealed, or expunged, follow the agency, court, and publisher's documented correction routes.
After a Ramsey Booking
After a Ramsey booking, the Fayette Circuit Clerk becomes the next official source. That office states most court records are public. Juvenile, adoption, impounded, and sealed files are the exceptions. Judici hosts the online case-information entry point for Fayette. Court records show filing decisions, hearings, added charges, dismissals, sentences, and other outcomes.
Release is simply a custody event. A transfer to IDOC makes the state offender search the useful tool, and federal and immigration systems stay separate. If no public case appears, timing or an access restriction may explain it, and a sealed record should never be worked around.
